Soon we will meet for exchange of knowledge!

02.03.07 friday - surry hills
at least we are at work again! we started with a shooting in the installation cloud fields by michaela gleave. she not only gave us the permission to work in her work but also participated in serveral of the pictures. these and the works shown at firstdraft gallery in january are now online!

24.01.07 wednesday - bronte / surry hills
now the exhibition is running, and iris is working on her first stagedesign for a theatrical piece called boston marriage. so we will not get on tour the next weeks .... that means: not many news.

05.01.07 thursday - bronte
we havent made many expeditions these days .... christmas, nye, and at the 10th the exhibition at firstdraft gallery ..... thats lots to do!

05.12.06 tuesday - berry creek + gore cove
today our expedition visited bery creek for the second time to collect plants and take pictures. we found out, that the animal, hederer spotted last time was not a snake but an eal on its way to lay its eggs.later on we reached gore cove and found some alstroemeria psittacina, a gardenescape from south america. nice video shots! that will be video number two for our exhibition at firstdraft gallery in january.

30.11.06 thursday -
scientist hederer visited the first time the national herbarium of new south wales which is part of the royal botanic gardens sydney. he did serveral identifications there.

27.11.06 tuesday - north sydney gully patrol
scientist hederer made a long patrol through 4 gullies on the northern side of port jackson. he checked berry creek, a potential place for a videoshooting were he spotted a watersnake identified by its paddel-like tailend. than he visited gore creek reserve, with a very interesting spot for a videoshoot: a passable stormwaterpipe underneath river road. hodgson park was more a photoarea. it is hardly thereadned by weeds. the last gully tannery creek seemed not to be so interesting for us.

14.11.06 tuesday - thomas hogan reserve
photoshooting of the scientists for the next issue of national geographic.

11.11.06 saturday - fred hollows reserve
scientist hederer made a short patrol to a reserve surrounded by buildings which is also known as glebe gully. it is a steep wet gully with a rainforrest vegetation at its ground and former dumps at the upper part. the water comes out of a stormwater-drain and disappears again at the lower end of the gully. the whole way throug is a wooden bridge covered with tags. interesting place!

07.11.06 wednesday - north harbour
after we edited the video-draft creek attack, we realized: "thats what we want!" so today we returned to
this gully with its garden escape at the manly harbour walk and took new pictures. 100 meters became a
real jungle-expedition. >>> video

27.10.06 friday - manly harbour walk
today we walked a track which is somehow typical for sydney but also unusual for metropolitan areas:
the manly scenic harbour walk. leading through the northern parts of sydney´s port jackson most of it was
renaturated or native bushlands and rain forests. because this areas were not very urban, we only collected
3 plants, but fact is: the area is contaminated by many garden escapes. However we found interesting
places for further visual investigations.

18.10.06 wednesday - clovelly rocks
after visiting the very strange concrete-construction of clovelly beach, we climbed into the rocks
at shark point. after getting wet by a very high wave we got onto the the top of the cliffs at borrows
park. we collected serveral plants along the tracks to waverley cemetery.

17.10.06 tuesday
finaly we got a scanner. building up the digital herbarium can start now!

11.10.06 wednesday - bronte jungle track
starting from our new base in bronte (151º 15' 30" E - 33º 56' 20" S) we examined the northern hill
of the suburb, descending through the jungle of bronte reserve to bronte gully. on our way we found
a hidden bmx-paradise, connected by a small track with a rotten skatepipe in the middel of the
thicket - a secret spot for the local youth. after following the gully we reached the picknick-areas
of bronte beach where dozens of infants played with selfmade kites. huge trees, wilderness,
bbq - an total australian beach.

05.10.06 thursday
on our 3-day-trip to canberra (australias artificial capital) together with julian we had an appointment
at the australian national botanic gardens today. chris the curator of the cryptogam herbarium
showed and explained us the national herabrium and the concept of the gardens. we had an
astonishing 3-and-a-half-hour tour through the collection of more than 1 million sheets stored in
metal cupboards and got heaps of good informations and valuable hints for our own expedition.

02.10.06 monday (public holiday) - stockton beach safari
for 2 days we are in newcastle 180km north of sydney. our camp is at stockton beach from
where we could see the wrack of the norwegan ship sygna, sunk and strandet in 1974 serveral
kilometers north. we tryed to reach it from the landside through the 4wd-access lavis lane near
willamtown. we made a 6km-walk while dozens of jeeps headed for a hoidayfun through the
dunes and got burned by the sun. we could not reach it because our maps and our informations
about the area were not very exact but we had a very interesting view on the way how the locals
spend their time at the vra (vehicle recreation area). we were the only ones to do this safari by foot.

01.10.06 sunday - newcastle visit

29.09.06 friday - botany bay expedition
it was the first time we reached the shores of botany bay, when we took our skateboards
towards brighton le sands, the north western corner of the bay. we took pictures of the
starting and landing plains, which passengers bearly could see, what we examined in the
sands of the dunes. again we collected lots of plants, this time mostly grasses, which we
have to dry still with our rudimentary tools. unfortunately we had to find also a few injections,
indicating a very wired way to seek for paradise.

27.09.06 wednesday - the domain visit

25.09.06 monday
after the warm and stormy western winds from sunday, first bushfires were indicated in
new south wales. that is two month earlier than usual. the reports shown on tv spoke
about the possibilitie of a heavy fire season.

24.09.06 sunday - cook river tour
after lots of organizing-stuff the last days, we headed for our first excoursion into the area
east from arncliffe, to the shore of cooks river. we collected a total of 22 plants. we try
to dry them in the garage of julian with a very rudimentary equipment. because of the bad
dryingconditions some of the plants got rotten. we dumped them on 09.10.06.
on our trip we also observed a travelling bee-hive, crested pigeons (spitzschopftauben)
and serveral ibis spreading around garbagebins.

17.09.06 sunday 8:30am
after a 36h-travel from karlsruhe (germany) we landed with flight ek418 on kingsford smith
airport
sydney at the shore of botany bay. we where picked up by julian, at whose place we
can build up our first camp in arncliffe (151º 09' 05" E - 33º 56' 02" S)
only serveral 100 meters
north-west from botany bay.
